Capturing your Fresh 48 Photos
Hey my friend! You have heard of the Fresh 48 session and want to know more about how to plan for it and make it happen? I am here to answer your questions! Let’s get into all the details on capturing your fresh 48 pictures, and take a look at some cute babies along the way!
The Beauty of Fresh 48 Photos
Fresh 48 photography is all about capturing the beautiful moments within the first 48 hours of your baby’s life. Fresh 48 photos are much different than the in home newborn sessions. These are more raw, unposed photos that beautifully preserve your little one’s arrival when they are less than 48 hours old.
It’s all about embracing the authenticity and pure emotion of this special time. Your baby will change so much in the first days and weeks of their life that I PROMISE you will be shocked when you look back at the fresh 48 pictures and wonder HOW could they have been so small?!
What Sets Fresh 48 Pictures Apart
Fresh 48 photos have a unique charm. They’re captured in a documentary style, often using natural light to bring out the genuine beauty of these early moments.
This photoshoot usually takes place at home, if you had a in home birth, your local hospital, or birthing center. As a first time mom, I can remember the whole stay being such a blur between the bliss of becoming a mother to trying to heal from a C-section. Plus try to take photos on my baby on top of all that? Bringing in a photographer would have been so much more meaningful!!
How to Prepare for Your Fresh 48 Session
Your natural environment is the perfect backdrop. Whether it’s your hospital room or the cozy space you’ve prepared at home, it’s where your story unfolds.
NATURAL is BEST!
Keep things simple. Your newborn is the star of the show, so opt for light, neutral-colored clothing. Soft fabrics like cotton or linen work beautifully.
DEDICATE A SPOT IN THE ROOM FOR THE CLUTTER
I know you packed your hospital bag with great care, taking all the million things that are necessary to make your birth and the days after as comfortable as possible, I sure did! As necessary as all of that is, consider dedicating a section of your room for it and leaving the immediate space around your bed and crib relatively clutter-free.
Picking the Best Time for Your Fresh 48 Pictures
There are SO many firsts to be captured, so time is of the essence! First moments with your partner, first baths, first yawns, first time meeting siblings, and the first time your partner gets to spend with the baby.
Fresh 48 sessions are best scheduled for the first two days after birth, usually the second morning or day after the birth. This ensures we capture those incredibly tender first moments and both you and the baby have had time to get in the photo-ready mindset.
I’d suggest going for a morning session starting somewhere between 9 a.m. and noon to take advantage of the morning light. Your baby will most likely also be as happy for the shoot as possible!
These first days are so full of important moments they slip by you like glitter, so beautiful, so many, dazzling you completely. It’s impossible to capture them all in your memory, so the fresh 48 pictures will be a precious treasure to have forever.
Stay Relaxed and Natural
The beauty of Fresh 48 lies in its candidness. Simply be yourselves, and let your love for your little one shine through. Authentic moments make for the most cherished memories.
Remember, this session is all about you and your little one. It’s about capturing the love, tenderness, and awe that fills the room. So, snuggle, cuddle, and let your hearts speak volumes. We will also capture your little one just being there, with all their little toes and wrinkles!
There’s really no script for Fresh 48 pictures. Whatever happens during the session, even if it’s your baby’s first big blowout – we can just clean them up and continue!
